Below are initial studies for the an upcoming two person exhibition with Deidre Prosen "The Self and Society". Having recently involved myself primarily with digital experimentation in color and pattern theory I am enthusiastic to turn a new leaf with a return to drawing and explorations in painting. In this posting I include only some of the charcoal studies intended for reference for future paintings. I am currently finishing the painting "Nude Ascending an Escalator" featured in a past post. Currently I am preparing the blue prints for conceptual installations for the upcoming traveling exhibition along with laying the ground work to begin painting "The Naturalist" and "The Naturalist II" (studies below). More on this very soon!
Feel free to visit the newly launched "The Self and Society" exhibition website (work in progress)
Influenced by color field and minimalist artists of mid 20th century, Artmoticon: Portrait of the Artist, is an extension of such schools of thought with an emphasis on digital processes, objective formalism, and figurative symbolism. The emoticon composition refers to the relationship between human beings and computer technology. Though the work does not bear realism, a portrait is symbolized through the placement of formal color theory models and grey scale used as "facial features".
The main theme targeted in recent digital works is depersonalization driven from contemporary culture, interpersonal relationships, and the digital age.
