The work of this series focuses on major landmarks within Milwaukee, Madison, and Chicago; as well as significant images that concern my personal life and my experience as a UWM student. Collecting the images for this body of work has been adventurous as well as reflective. In this series, I wanted to explore the similarities and differences that are found between religion and government; by capturing images of these buildings and artifacts I identified the influence that these two factions of society possess over the collective.
In this collection, I used photography as a self-exploratory tool to create a personal narrative which showcases my art, experiences, and environment. By going out into the world in order to capture these “Personal Landmarks” I have intensified my understanding of how I relate to world; as a person who is inherently influenced by it, and as a person who defines it.
